{dress sewing} a simple pattern
I spent yesterday afternoon and evening sewing this dress to wear to a wedding this weekend. It's an evening wedding with a dress code and I was picturing a cute ivory and black lace cocktail dress with a 50s vibe. I checked my favorite local boutique and online, but I kept thinking that I could sew something just as nice for a much smaller price... so I headed off to the fabric store and found everything I needed for $45!
And the best part is that the pattern is for beginning sewers, so it was really easy!
I used Kwik Sew 3160 - this pattern is designed for a dress that has two layers of lightweight material. I cheated on the fabric and found ivory taffeta with black lace already attached to it (from the prom dress area of the fabric store), so instead of cutting two layers I simply added facing to the neck and arm openings for a clean look.
As you can see from the package, the pattern is designed for a casual dress. But choosing the high neckline option and a formal fabric changes the look altogether!
I'll take a photo this weekend when I have the entire outfit assembled for the wedding! The dress looks so cute on - the full skirt really shows itself off.
Now that I've sewn one fancy dress I can 't wait to make another one : )
