brainstorming socks
So after finding the cool vintage heel-less sock pattern, trying it out, and finding it a bit to small for the modern foot, I started trying to figure out my own version of the heel-less sock idea. It has to fit better, be really simple, and be something that you could put down and forget about, then come back to weeks later and be able to pick it up again without being like "Oh no, I can't remember where I was in this pattern... oh, I think I just messed it up." (This is a major concern for me because I am constantly messing up socks this way!)
So I was working on this updated version yesterday when I realized that this new pattern would also be really easy to knit with bulky yarn and larger needles for a quick, chunky pair of socks or slippers! So I'm definitely going to figure out that variation, too.
Then I was thinking about it some more and I realized that, by leaving out the heel turning step, this pattern could actually be knit flat and sewn up with a single seam (for all of the knitters who don't feel comfortable with DPN's buts still want to knit a pair of socks for their grandma). That's when my brain exploded.
socks knit in the round with sock yarn
socks knit in the round with bulky yarn
socks knit flat with sock yarn
socks knit flat with bulky yarn
That's four different ways to knit socks with just one simple sock concept.
This may be my proudest knitting moment ever : )
So I am working diligently to make this Choose Your Sock pattern a reality. And that's what's going on today.

Wow...sounds exciting! I love it when your brain has a storm like that!
The yarn is really cool! I really like that you're inventing stuff like that. I can't wait to see the pair finished :)
