I spent some time this week thinking about simple & affordable ways to package my Etsy orders while maintaining a personalized, handmade look. I came up with a great solution that works for my shop AND would be cute for gift-giving, too!
The supplies are: brown paper lunch bags (I paid 99 cents for 50 bags), "Hello My Name Is" sticker badges (I paid $2.89 for a giant pack), a pen or marker, scissors, and a sewing machine.
Using your sewing machine, sew a line across the paper bag above the flat bottom. You can sew it higher for packaging smaller items, or sew it right above the flat bottom to fit larger items. I drew a dotted line on this bag to show where I was going to sew:
After you've sewn across, use scissors to cut off the bottom of the bag. I used pinking shears to give it a zig-zag edge. Next, place your item in the bag and fold down the top. Use one of the "Hello My Name Is" stickers to seal the package. I wrote my shop name on the sticker to personalize it, you could also use it as a gift tag by inscribing it with the recipient's name.
Here is another tip: Don't throw away the bottom of the bag! Cut it into strips or run it through your shredder to make packing material for boxes - use it instead of packing peanuts or bubble wrap to cushion delicate items. Brown paper bags are recyclable and compostable so it's more eco-friendly than plastic (well... most things are more eco-friendly than plastic!).
