fun little things

Here are some fun little projects I made on Saturday... tiny little canvases on tiny little easels! The canvases measure 3" x 3"... so cute!

I'm feeling a tad under the weather today... I just had sore throat a week and a half ago and now I'm feeling sick again... bleh. I'm going to curl up with Netflix, an afghan, and some sock knitting in just a few minutes. Surely that will make me feel better! : )

another way to use the bows : )

Hello! I have another way for you to use the crochet bows from my tutorial! They make super cute holiday gift packaging! I used a 2.0 mm crochet hook and crochet thread for these bows, but the technique pretty much the same...

I think they would also be sweet tied around an evergreen garland...

Can't crochet? Don't have time? Don't worry, you can find them in my shop! : )

f i n i s h e d

I finished the "topography" embroidery! That's what I'm calling it, "topography." It reminds me of a hilly landscape as seen from above. It's 10.5 inches across with the hoop, so it's pretty large for an embroidered piece (at least, for me). And now it's finished!

I just added it to my shop, too!

bits & pieces of autumn

I'm putting together a fun little project... a centerpiece to celebrate the beautiful autumn weather we've been having in Alabama for the past few weeks. It's simple to make and collecting all the elements can be done over time, so the project changes as the season progresses.

I went on a nature walk to collect some long twigs, pine cones, seed pods, and acorns. When I returned home, I scrounged up an empty coffee can, covered the outside with scrap booking paper, and filled the can 2/3 of the way with small rocks. I hung my little nature treasures with crochet thread and dried some orange slices (225 F in my oven) to add some color.

I plan to add more items as I go and some small, colorful ornaments will look pretty in December!

I just love the velvety seed pods! They are from some type of bushy/viney plant, but I'm not sure what it is!

Now I need to make some more apple cinnamon spice tea and enjoy the rest of my autumn crafternoon!

coming along nicely...

I'm making quite a bit of progress on two projects that I've been working on for a while... the February Lady sweater and my embroidery of little x's.

The body of the sweater is finished and I've started on the first arm...

and I have just one chunk of embroidery left...

both projects are really fun to work on. I think I'll knit another February Lady before the winter is over, it's such a nice pattern with no seams! That is the best part : )

free crochet pattern :: bow headband

Here is my newest crochet how-to! We are making this cute bow headband...

We will start by making two simple pieces: a rectangle and a long string. I used worsted weight yarn and a size H/5.0 mm crochet hook. You can use this same method with other yarns & hooks, the headband will just be bigger or smaller. Play around & try things out!

To make the rectangle:
1. Chain 15.
2. Work in double crochet for 4 rows.
3. Cut yarn, knot off, and weave in your ends.

To make the headband string:
1. Chain 90.
2. Check your head... is this enough stitches to reach around your head and tie? Adjust if necessary.
3. Work one row in single crochet.

To make the bow, scrunch the rectangle together in the middle. Take some extra yarn and wrap it around several times (4 or 5 times should do the trick). Don't cut the yarn yet!

Now position the bow on the headband string - a little off center so that it will sit on the side of your head. Continue wrapping the yarn, catching the headband string and making your headband into one piece. When the bow is secure, cut the yarn and knot it. Weave in the ends and you are finished!
